tutzing, munich

on monday morning i attended an energie conference at the evangelical academy in tutzing.

im so amazed at how kind strangers are when i travel. people in tutzing were no exception. one man was very grandfatherly in taking care of me - letting me borrow his incredibly detailed map of munich, helping me figure out which train to take back (i already knew, but he was so kind i accepted his help anyway), and giving me a lift to the main part of town (even though it was a 10-minute walk). one woman wrote a list of places (with directions, subway changes, everything) for me to visit before she left.

i wonder what compels these people to be so nice.

the conference itself was very solid - good speakers, good information (even when i didn't understand the german, i just wrote down the sources), good living conditions. the best part was a sort of "arranged soiree" we had - it was really fun just to chitchat with these old, wealthy, probably conservative people in the field of politics. except when they made dorky jokes like "and next thing you know austria will get all its energy from electricity instead of hydropower, HAHAHAHAH." :-(

the s-bahn ride from tutzing to munich - you see the alps and is breathtaking. even though most people spoke with a standard german accent, there were some hardcore bavarians there - sometimes i could understand them just fine, othertimes...AHHHH.

i'd learned in german class that they said "gruss gott" in the south - but it was so funny to hear how they ACTUALLY do say it. it was great at first, but kind of got on my nerves after a while...

the fashion there is really good as well - not as boring as frankfurt, i felt. speaking of fashion, an article about two brits who don't like new york fashion - thank you! it's very overrated.

definitely going back to munich though.
