not a very tourist-friendly city - this subway map shows only a few lines, and there is no comprehensive "netz" like in berlin (or anywhere else!). sometimes there was no map of the very line i was running on inside the tram.
the houses are so narrow, it's fabulous. each has its own personality as well, even moreso than in berlin. that was really the best part about the city.
a random square. the first day i arrived i just hopped on a random bus, got down somewhere random, walked around for half an hour, got on another bus/tram, and repeated that for the whole day. nice way to see the city and get to know the subway lines, though people looked at me strangely when i was in the outskirts.
"autohaus" where i attended a schmooze session between auto industry execs and members of the european parliament (and their staffers). bad champagne, bad hors d'oeuvres, snobby people...
"mannekin pis" - supposedly once upon a time a boy had a creative way to scare away soldiers or putting out a fire (he was standing over a bridge). belgian people make clothes for the statue...
apparently belgians seldom eat waffels. too bad, bc they are super delicious.
the tram goes underground in brussels, so their metro is very old school
i'm so short i couldn't get up high enough, but the trams are always crowded
