first of all, thank goodness its over! i dont even follow the election that closely and i had fatigue...
a) "change" maybe im just a cynic, but i dont really think obama will "change" much. for most aspects of foreign policy, the us is still the us, its just a matter of whether its a nicer face or not. he might take troops out of iraq, but 1/3 of ambassador positions will still go to people that donated to the campaign instead of foreign service officers. but i "hope" to be proven wrong. and at least he's not mccain.
b) on racism - kind of inspiring, actually. now im making sure my kids are born in the us so they can become president.
also: In Russia, for example, where Soviet leaders used to respond to any American criticism of human rights violation with "But you hang Negroes," analysts note that the election of Obama removes a stain. (iht)
first, lol at the soviet response becuase it was true. second, it doesn't "remove" anything because what happened, happened.
c) virginia - wow! 51.8 percent for obama, and so he got all 13 votes. i guess nobody's complaining about the electoral college now. and 59% of fairfax county went to obama. ^_^ i am reminded of how when jim webb was elected, absentee ballots from northern virginia were a deciding factor (cant find the article).
d) im kind of excited about going back in january now. even though its kind of sad, because i only feel like im really starting to settle in.
