happy 2008

i spent new years eve at my friend's apartment - around midnight we went to her roof and watched fireworks. because she lives in the city center, there were fireworks 360 degrees around us. it was actually quite gorgeous.

...normally the fireworks were faraway in the background, but some came from the streeet below - that means that we'd suddenly see fireworks next to us or right above our heads. it was beautiful (and not even that cold). the whole thing made me feel very hopeful for the future.

unfortunately i didnt get pictures...im terrible at taking pictures of fireworks anyway.

on entering the new year:

if you imagine your life as a timeline, and imagine you took a few steps forward, would you be going forwards or backwards in time? in a western conception of time you would be going forward. but in some native american cultures, you live your life backwards - that is to say, you live your life with the conception that you only have a few of the past. so a few steps forward would actually be going back in time.
