yesterday (saturday) I left my lanyard with my keys and my flash drive (present from my parents) on the bus! i eventually got them back today (on a sunday! very unusual in germany)
i was really depressed about it, since it costs 150 euro ($211.132 - oh dear) to replace the lock. more importantly, because the wirtschafterin (housekeeper) would only be back monday i thought i was going to be locked out of my room for...an entire weekend.
my friends were so helpful and caring about helping me - and i really appreciated that. but what i really felt overwhelmed by was the kindness of the people i didn't know as well:
-my (german) neighbor (with whom i'd spoken twice in six weeks) drove me down to city center (about 2-3 miles each way) just to see if i had left it in the restaurant where i had been that day. i thought he was going to stadtmitte because he needed to do something himself, but he actually made the trip just for me. so.nice.
-i was taking the bus down to the city center this morning and i spoke to the bus driver about my situation. he not only called the Lost&Found for me, he gave me exact directions to the place, held another bus that was going there and was waiting for me at the Lost&Found to help me. he really bent over backwards to help me out, and i appreciate it so much.
