pretty cool how this nyt article had an effect on facebook:
original article on how you cant delete your account, but you can only deactivate it.
the response by facebook
the cool thing about deleted accounts on studivz (a social networking site popular in germany that recently had a round of trouble because it was selling data to interested companies) is that all your wall posts are deleted (and im 90% sure all messages are as well).
i should update with something more substantive about my time in germany - i k eep meaning to but i think my mood changes like a teenager sometimes. i think though, this really long term concept of time in germany is plain annoying. my tandem partner was talking about someone and was like "oh i dont know her very well, ive only known her for a year." uh, what...
i was talking to a friend a few nights ago how its not weird for people to be like "omg i cant meet this month, im super busy." this MONTH?! i dont know, maybe during finals time, but that doesnt really explain all the people that blew me off the first few months i was here. whatever im slowly approaching six months here and its kind of sad and hard to admit sometimes that other than the fact that berlin is a very cool and exciting city and my research going well (my mentor is great and things are picking up pace now that i can read academic level german) i have very few real friends (take away that people i knew before i came and its an even more paltry number) and still feel kind of lonely more than i think i should.
i guess overall i would say 85% of the time i am having fun and the other 15% is less than inspiring. when im having a good week i think that i actually am having a good time here and am being dramatic when im feeling low, but when im feeling badly i sometimes wonder if im just lying to myself the other 85% of the time. either way, a visit home to virginia is very much in order.
